Resiliency in the age of a hybrid or fully remote environment is more important now than ever.

Your team is everything- you build your organization and you rely on each other. Being resilient will help your team continue to grow, even through its most difficult moments.

High Performing vs Resilient Teams

High performing teams are often those that get the job done and then some, but they often experience burn-out and can crumble their systems easily.

Resilient teams can weather the storms. They have a set of structures or principles that help the team adjust to the difficulties and challenges.

What gets in the way of building a resilient team?

Egos are the number one barrier to building a resilient team. Comparing yourself to others only furthers development of resiliency.

Unrealistic demands on the team can lead to losing team members to other jobs or burnout.

As a leader, not investing in your people can hinder a team’s resiliency. Taking your time and effort to grow and develop your team is integral to building resilience when things get challenging. A team you know and support well will rise to the occasion and “weather the storm.”

What if you’re a CEO building a resilient team?

Chances are you are a CEO coming into a team that has already been created and working together for some time.

First thing to do is to research and learn about that team. Coming in “already swinging” and not getting to know what’s already happening would be a detriment to building a relationship with you.

Once you know the team, discuss the work, strategies, and vision WITH the team. Create a set of rules and values together.

Spending this initial time getting to know your team is critical to its growth and success.
