Jeff Kaplan Testimonials

See what some of our clients are saying about their experience!

Jeff is one of the most remarkable people I know and that is perhaps why he is the best executive coach that I have ever worked with. He has the rare gift of asking the most insightful questions that encouraged me to dig deep in exploring previous experiences and personal values to create solutions to challenging issues and people. Jeff always offers a safe environment in which to test ideas and his flexible and objective approach, with the right balance of support and challenge, enabled me to see a clearer path both in solving leadership issues and achieving my personal development goals. While he is generous in offering reading materials and developmental tools, the real benefit of working with Jeff is that he is always incredibly committed to my success not just as a professional but also as a person.

– Bruce A. Meyer MD, MBA, President, Western Pennsylvania Market, Highmark Health

I first worked with Jeff as part of an institutional leadership training program. It was such a transformative experience that I continue to work with him to this day.  His insights have been invaluable in helping me identify and build on my strengths. More importantly, he has helped me become more self-aware and identify important opportunities for growth in my leadership style.  In particular, he has helped me develop and refine skills in strategic planning, time management, conflict resolution, and identifying and nurturing talent. Jeff is also an incredible resource in working through professional issues in real time, serving as an invaluable sounding board in navigating challenges and identifying solutions. Jeff has a very engaging and open style which makes discussing even difficult topics much less stressful.  I feel incredibly fortunate to be able to continue working with Jeff on professional and personal development. I couldn’t ask for a better partner!

– Ebbing Lautenbach, MD, MPH, Chief, Division of Infectious Diseases, Perelman School of Medicine, University of Pennsylvania

Considering this past year during the COVID-19 pandemic has been one of the most clinically and academically challenging in my 37 years at Jefferson, my coaching experience has been one of the most surprisingly pleasurable, constructive, productive, cost-effective and satisfying experiences of my professional career. “

— Ted Christopher, Chair of Emergency Medicine at Jefferson

“After 29 years with Shaw Industries, I was selected to become just the third CEO in our 55-year history. I selected Dr. Jeff Kaplan for a 1-year engagement after interviewing several potential executive coaches. I sought an external resource to complement our internal team and accelerate my stated commitment, “Shaw deserves my best as I commit to make my best better.” Dr Jeff has exceeded my expectations and helped me define a leadership space that respectfully honors my predecessors but with my own voice.  He helped me leverage my personality and strengths while addressing areas for personal focus and improvement. I am now more confidently leading a refreshed vision for our enterprise. Dr. Jeff is a true executive coach who leverages both his clinical training and his business acumen to transcend counseling and consulting. Through preparation and challenge, Dr Jeff creates a personalized learning experience that demonstrates experimentation and psychological safety. I value Dr Jeff’s insights and am grateful for his coaching.”

— Tim Baucom, CEO and President Shaw Industries, a Berkshire Hathaway Company

“Dr. Jeff Kaplan was a gem. I have had the opportunity to work with several excellent executive/leadership coaches in the past.  Jeff was excellent – focused, no nonsense and thorough.   We developed a strong bond both within the structure of the coaching, but also on a personal basis.  The latter continues to this day. “

– Charles J. Yeo, M.D., F.A.C.S. , Chairman, Department of Surgery, Sidney Kimmel Medical College, Thomas Jefferson University, Senior Vice President and Enterprise Chair, Surgery Jefferson Health

“It was my pleasure to be afforded the opportunity to work with Dr Jeff Kaplan, when I was first promoted to the role of President of Jefferson Northeast. To work with Dr Kaplan throughout the first year of this transition was a very welcomed resource to me and helped exponentially in allowing me to adjust to the new role, overcome immediate hurdles, quantify the key initiatives to focus on in the first several months, and specifically define my vision for what leadership would look like during tenure. Having Jeff as a confidant and advisor helped me to make progress at a much quicker pace and ultimately aided in a successful transition for me into an advanced role. Tactically speaking, Jeff was very excellent, he was big on timeliness and accountability but also accommodating to a hectic schedule. It was obvious that he prepared because he came to each session with excellent ideas and questions which helped drive more out of the box thinking and conversations. He was also always willing and able to recommend and share additional proactive materials and resources. More than just professionally, I also grew personally. Jeff introduced me to many new ways of thinking about relationships, psychology, leadership, and spirituality.  I truly enjoyed each of our sessions. Overall, it was an A+ experience and I’d highly recommend Jeff”

- Rich Galup, MS, MBA, President Jefferson Health System- Northeast Division

“I began working with Jeff during business school, and our meetings continued as I transitioned into my current faculty role. Jeff and I immediately connected over the concept of leading with heart–seeking to lead with purpose, empathy, humility, understanding, and engagement. These principles are crucial components of effective leadership. I feel very fortunate to have had the opportunity to connect with Jeff as a coach and feel that our interactions were formative as I began my leadership career. I frequently reflect on the principles and approaches we discussed and believe that I am a stronger leader as a result of our relationship.”

- Nate Handley, MD, MBA

“Working with Jeff was a pleasure. He pushed just the right amount to help me expand my leadership style comfort zone. It was clear working with Jeff that he understood the unique nature of academic physician leadership, which allowed us to build a trusting relationship more quickly and communicate candidly with one another. Jeff also provided me with an abundance of valuable reference material to read, which, as a scientist at heart, was key to me being open to changing my way of thinking.

- Dan Podberesky, MD, Radiologist-in-Chief, Nemours Children’s Health System

“The hospital work environment has changed dramatically in recent years and is a much more matrixed environment than in the past.  Jeff Kaplan has greatly helped me navigate this environment through his understanding of people and an appreciation of the complexities of the world in which we work toward our common goal of helping patients.  Physicians face unique pressures and Jeff understands how to leverage our strengths and mitigate our weaknesses in our changing role as team leaders rather than individual performers.”

- T Sloane Guy, M.D., MBA, Director of Minimally Invasive & Robotic Cardiac Surgery, Sidney Kimmel Medical College, Thomas Jefferson University

“Jeff was a God send to me in my professional, business, and personal development while I tried to rework myself through Wharton Executive Education late in my career. His combined expertise in psychology and business together with his focus and engaging personality assisted me greatly in seeing my blind spots while supporting my strengths. No matter what the issue was that we discussed, his calm and mindful approach made all the difference. He is always prepared and remembers everything from past conversations. There is no question in my mind that Jeff leads with heart and empathy. Anyone who has the opportunity to work with Dr. Kaplan as a professional coach should take that opportunity and enjoy their time together. I consider Jeff a friend – a person who reached my mind, heart, and soul.”

- George Rodriquez, President of Dynamic Injury Solutions LLC

I met Jeff in 2019 when I was in an executive program in Philadelphia. I was lucky enough to have Jeff as a leadership coach during this program. I’ve had a lot of executive training, consulting but after my first session with Jeff, I knew this was going to be different.

Not only does Jeff listen to what is going on at the moment, he also pivots to whatever is underlying. Jeff brings valuable tools and insight that were not in my toolbox. Jeff has a caring side when unboxing the latent issues, we all have in business and life, with this, he delivers valuable feedback and an actionable plans to execute.

In my opinion, Jeff sets the bar high with each session, creating an impactful session(s) that keeps you looking forward to the next time you meet. I would highly recommend Jeff. If anyone would like to talk more, email me at smcdermott@premechllc.com.

- Sean McDermott, President, Precision Mechanical Services

“I started working with Jeff when I was at a crossroads in my career — deciding whether to remain at a large public company where I had a potential path to becoming general counsel or join a smaller private company to immediately step into that role.  Jeff helped me refocus my energies on making a more meaningful impact in the moment through my personal brand and executive presence.  This approach has served me well in my leadership journey, regardless of the specific direction I chose.  Jeff’s advice was always practical and actionable, and he challenged me to think more expansively about my influence as a leader.”

- Hyung J. Bak General Counsel and Secretary, Warby Parker

All I can say is I wish I had the opportunity to have worked with Jeff years ago!  The 6-month leadership coaching sessions I had with Jeff taught me so much about myself and how to be a more confident and effective leader. It’s not always easy to confront those areas in your life that are holding you back or creating barriers, but Jeff has an uncanny ability to help you open up and work through these things in your own way!  He provided me with tools and skill that have been invaluable in my personal and professional life. I cannot than him enough!

- Kelly Zabriskie, MLS, BS, CIC, Enterprise Vice President Infection Control, Jefferson Health

I appreciate Jeff’s practical approach. He is a great listener who brought a plan but was flexible enough to adapt to the specific context and challenges of my situation. His strength was pushing me to understand and articulate the key insights myself, and then to identify clear, memorable and doable next steps to reach my goals for honing or changing leadership behaviors.

- Mark Gleason, Executive Director, Philadelphia School Partnership

I have had good experiences in the past with executive coaching. I have always found my coach to be a great sounding board, that was able to pick up patterns in my thoughts, words, and behaviors that I was unaware of, and help me gain more insight into myself and how I am perceived. My expectations with Jeff were about the same, but in truth, he exceeded my expectations. In the past, my experience with coaching was a very “subjective” experience that involved a lot of interpretation, based mostly on anecdote, story, and frankly, here-say. Jeff’s approach is very measured, data driven, focused, and objective. Everything he observed, explored, or offered in sessions was then followed up with a reference for more reading and information. His suggestions were evidence based, were measurable, and he created a system and a cadence of accountability for me. In follow up sessions, there were rewards and even—agreed upon voluntary—negative reinforcements. A record was made of the changes and outcomes. He monitored my progress along all steps. He brought in many different validated tools to help me gain insight into myself. While I have taken disc assessments, 360’s, and personality profiles in the past, this was totally different. Jeff did an analysis and synthesis of all of the data with each test, and contextualized it, again, in written form, with demonstrable examples. The follow up from the objective tests were action items, with due dates and accountability. No coach ever did this with me in the past. And while doing this, his deep caring for me was clear. He is sensitive in how he conveys challenges, makes you feel like he is on your side, looking out for your good and best interest, and deeply committed to you and your growth. He is the best coach I have ever had.  I have had four.

- Oren Guttman, Chief Quality & Safety Officer, Abington Jefferson Health, Enterprise Vice President for High Reliability & Patient Safety Jefferson Health

Although I have had many years of experience in leadership roles and had an awareness that I was in need of personal development, it wasn’t until I worked with Jeff that I was able to fully understand what the opportunities were.  Through Jeff’s coaching we were able develop a path for me to identify and effectively improve upon those aspects of emotional intelligence where my skills were lacking.  I have found Jeff to have an effective coaching style, that allows you to be comfortable discussing your personal intellectual and emotional skills that are in need of reboot.  Since then, I have used these acquired skills in my professional and personal life.  I can honestly state I am very pleased to have received this coaching experience and this has been a very worthwhile endeavor.

- Darren Ebesutani, Director Supply Chain, Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania

No matter what stage you’re at in your career, there will be challenges to tackle, and coaching can offer new insights and perspectives. What I loved about working with Jeff was his preparation and direct, personalized approach. He was clearly invested in the process and was an active advocate every step of the way. Successful coaching requires trust and openness, and Jeff’s genuine, focused and intuitive demeanor facilitated the perfect environment to quickly move into a partnership that yielded tangible progress. I’m so grateful for the opportunity to collaborate with Jeff, and the professional growth that he inspired.

- Dawn Graham, Career Director, MBA Program for Executives at The Wharton School

The trajectory of your life can change on a dime. I don’t know where I might be had I met Dr. Jeff Kaplan earlier in my career (or life for that matter). But I can definitively say he has had a profound impact on my vision–the way I see the world, and just as importantly, how I see myself in that world and how I’m seen through the eyes of others. This change in perspective has been so vital for me. He understood my needs, provided solutions–and I never felt judged in any way. Though I wish I would have worked with Dr. Jeff Kaplan sooner, I can say that the old proverb is true: Better late than never! Thanks Dr. Kaplan.”
– Phil Kim, Chief Innovation & Strategy Officer, Universal Nutrition

- Jim Miranda, M.D., Penn Medicine, University of Pennsylvania Health System

Jeff is a tremendous coach and I wish I had met him a decade ago. He is constructive, sincere and empowering. His structured coaching style has helped me dive deeper and explore areas of growth as well as self-imposed constraints that have been holding me back. I appreciate his sincerity and really admire his creative approach to help build confidence and drive personal accountability. I highly recommend Jeff to other leaders who aspire to lead with humility and compassion.

Jeff and I intersected at a pivotal moment in my career – the timing couldn’t have been more perfect. The insights I gained from his process helped unlock better understanding of myself and the opportunities available to me. Jeff’s data-driven approach gathered a deeper level of feedback which he paired with tools and actionable practices. I never doubted for an instant that his goal for me was nothing less than the best outcome imaginable.

- Jennifer Paine, Head of WW Regulatory Affairs, Johnson & Johnson

Before I started working with Jeff, I would have described myself as a reluctant leader. As a function of Jeff’s coaching, I gained a much better understanding of workplace dynamics, executive presence, and influence, making me a more confident and effective manager. Now, I enjoy the job more day to day and feel I am able to make a greater impact. Thank you, Jeff, for your expertise and guidance.

- Deanna Nobleza, M.D. Director, Student Counseling Center – Center City Department of Psychiatry and Human Behavior, Thomas Jefferson University

“I enjoyed working with Jeff on our coaching engagement. His series of 360-degree qualitative feedback interviews with my direct reports, peers, and superiors provided a very comprehensive picture of how I was viewed within the company. While it was, naturally, nice to see areas that my work and style had been appreciated, it was more enlightening to discover my weaknesses and even areas where misconceptions existed that affected my personal brand. Most importantly, though, that criticism was also accompanied by concrete recommendations solicited from my colleagues by Jeff as well as insights and suggestions Jeff provided himself. Overall, Jeff was supportive, candid, and helpful.”

- Jon Moore, Senior Fellow, Comcast (former Chief Software Architect)

“Working with Jeff is a great experience.  He is unique in that he has a background in psychology and business that allows him to understand his clients as well as the business world.  This allows him to help his clients overcome whatever obstacles they face in their careers and position them for success in the future.”

I am fortunate to ascend to leadership roles within my organization and boards, however, I found those leadership transitions to be challenging. In working with Jeff, I have been able to discover and embrace the unique aspects of my leadership style and voice.  Our work in strengthening my leadership, inherently lead to a deeper understanding of myself and honoring my essential values. Because of that, I am better able to navigate change, transition, and even improving how I interact with others. I am truly enjoying the leader that I continue to become. I have to thank Jeff for helping me learn the value of my heart-based leadership values, so that it can shine!

- Tiffany Canady, Senior Vice President- Finance & Accounting,

The thorough assessments that were conducted during my candidacy reassured me that I was a good fit for the role. The coaching and assessments during year one helped me to turn the ‘fit’ into outstanding business results. I am now a firm believer in conducting thorough assessments during recruitment, and then utilizing coaching during extended onboarding. Large organizations should adopt this as a best practice.

- Executive Vice President, Large Health System

- Darryl H. Beard, Vice President / Hospital Administrator

Jeff Kaplan is an amazing advisor, fantastic executive coach, and overall visionary. My introduction to Jeff was via contacts at Wharton. Our work together included strategic problem solving, crisis management, and leadership development. Jeff is able to walk his clients through the immediate issue while also having the ability to focus on long term goals. He does this by doing his homework; he will know a tremendous amount about you even before your first meeting. Also, he has the experience of advising numerous high-level executives in healthcare and beyond and so can reach into that experience and not only teach via frameworks but also relate stories about how other executives and companies have navigated similar situations. Finally, Jeff has an amazing array of colleagues that he is not hesitant to get you in touch with — this allows for ongoing growth for both parties and an amazing opportunity to network with like-minded individuals. Time spent with Jeff is invaluable for these many reasons but when you combine it with his great personality and friendliness, the time is enjoyable as well.

- Satya Shreenivas, MD, Interventional Cardiologist, The Christ Hospital Health Network

Jeff played a crucial role in shaping how I see myself as a leader, but more importantly how I show up every day as a human being. He is full of wisdom and perspective, and I would recommend him to anyone who is looking to expand both their tactical skills and the mindsets required to grow in their personal and professional lives. I constantly lean on Jeff’s coaching, and the experience is one I continue to look for in other relationships.

- Nick Kim, Principal, Crosscut Ventures

“Meeting and working with Jeff came at the absolute right time for me during a recent change into an executive leadership role.  I have had executive coaches in the past but so appreciated the ability of Jeff to help me in “real situations”.   With his help, we were able to peel apart either my initial reaction in a situation, or craft anticipated conversations/meetings for future.  The ability to tie my own and others’ assessments of my strengths and opportunities supported my professional growth and confidence in my negotiating skills.  Jeff helped me improve relationships that were challenging and not necessarily supportive of my role.  In a position that has significant matrixed relationships that need to be led by “influence” rather than “authority”, Jeff helped me understand the intent of these stakeholders and rethink my approaches keeping in mind others’ perspectives.  I believe that I am a better leader because of Jeff’s assistance through our coaching sessions.  Thank you Jeff for all your help and guidance!”

- Janet F. Tomcavage, MSN, RN, Executive Vice President, Chief Nurse Executive, Geisinger

I started working with Jeff late in 2018 when I needed help understanding myself and refocusing my energy / efforts. Jeff and I quickly developed an open and trusting relationship and I was amazed at how well Jeff knew me after only limited times together. Jeff helped me to better understand myself and to develop plans for managing various situations, both people and myself. We typically review a few actual situations each month (both completed and pending) and Jeff provides valuable coaching with a unique ability to understand me and what I’m up to / faced with. Jeff’s coaching has been very valuable to me, both professionally and personally and I really wish that I met Jeff at an earlier stage in my career.

- Jack Newnam, Vice-President, Allan Myers

“As a new clinical leader at a large health system, Jeff played such an important part in my professional development and early successes. An absolute pleasure to work it – Thanks Jeff”

– Olan Soremekum – Medical Senior Director, Cigna-HealthSpring

“I shared some moments of self-affirmation with Jeff when I was thrilled to hear the positive things others said about me. I also shared moments of disappointment if not deflation when I had to hear about “my opportunities to improve”, far less pleasant but in most ways far more valuable when explored with Jeff. He brings a thoughtful perspective as well as a sense of humor to the coaching relationship, and helped me to both acknowledge weaknesses and develop productive strategies to become a more effective leader.”

– Bill Schlaff – Chair, Department of Obstetrics & Gynecology – Jefferson Health

– John Bullen, Senior Director, Real Estate, Comcast

“Dr Jeff has made a greater impact on my career than any other single individual I ever met. His coaching success thrives on his unique ability to listen, understand, relate, and then translate your challenges into actionable takeaways for you to focus on. Jeff has almost a sixth sense about him which makes you feel relaxed and comfortable working with him. I felt like I knew Jeff for years by our second meeting. Since my time with Jeff I have received two promotions and started a new career. I only wish our meetings had never ended, and highly recommend the Executive Coaching experience with Jeff!”

– James McAllister, MBA, PMP, Strategic Sourcing Manager, SDI

“I was moving up that corporate ladder and recognized I didn’t have all the political savvy of many of my colleagues. The Executive Coaching I received from Dr. Kaplan trained me to pause and consider the different perspectives to any specific dilemma I was dealing with professionally.”

– Sue Haskoor, former Managing Director, Technology Investment, Strategy and Design Merrill Lynch Global Wealth & Investment Management

“This coaching helped me achieve reduced cost, increased productivity for the department, and improved morale.  Using techniques from the coaching I engaged in a difficult conversation with a locum about questionable expenses and he is re-working that expense statement into a more reasonable request.   I’ve also used techniques covered during the coaching engagement to help promote our new productivity model for all of the providers in our department of psychiatry and help promote engagement with that model.  Finally, techniques I’ve learned for conversations with employees and undercovering their underlying motivations has and will improve morale throughout the department.

In summary, I’ve found this coaching experience to be invaluable for identifying my strengths and weaknesses, developing an action plan to address my weaknesses, and developing techniques for conducting difficult conversations.  I would recommend Dr. Kaplan for other leaders in our organization as his coaching methods are very effective and delivered in a way that promotes engagement of the participant.”

Meet’s the leader wherever he/she is at then takes him/her to the next level identifying and leveraging strengths and targeting specific gaps.  Coaching occurs at two levels simultaneously – using real-life situations, coaching helps to provide new perspective and identify solutions while building leadership competencies that can be used for other situations .  (needs a good editor)
