So many leaders lead but leading with heart means something different to you?
What does Leading with Heart mean to you?
Leading with Heart is not intricate, but to understand how one operates by and through one’s own heart, you must understand the five tenets of my program.
The first tenant is PURPOSE, as defined by Merriam-Websters when a noun is, the reason for which something is done or created or for which something exists. As a Verb, it is defined as one’s intention or objective.
Leading with Heart connects both the noun and the verb forms and are very pertinent. Asking one’s self? Why do we exist? What is our purpose at work? What is our purpose in life? The last one is a heavy question but it all ties in together. Bottom line is, without purpose, we cannot be or feel whole and if we don’t know our purpose how can we live life and lead others? Simply, we cannot.
When you Lead with Heart in your job you lead with a sense of purpose. You have a purpose for the mission, customers, organization, and strategy. Finding YOUR purpose is necessary if an individual wants to find a better way to not only figure themselves out, but a better way to lead people, to grow and discover your capabilities. If you do not know your purpose you are moving in life quite haphazardly and especially if you are in a Leadership position at work.
How does an individual learn about their purpose? They continue to learn about the five tenants of Leading with Heart, the next being, EMPATHY.
“Leadership describes what leaders symbolize more than what they achieve. Productive leadership requires that followers find a sense of purpose and meaning in what their leaders represent, such as social identity or some future opportunity”. Stan McChrystal – 5 Star General
