Leading with Heart truly embodies its name. Our leaders and coaches lead with their hearts. Often, this centers around moments of gratitude in personal lives and within companies and organizations. Incorporating moments of recognizing what people are grateful for can change a company culture drastically, all with just a few minutes of time!

Ways to incorporate gratitude in your organization:

  • Begin and end meetings with an expression of gratitude.

  • Keep a journal close by to keep track of moments of gratitude.

  • Incorporate a thought of gratitude in your email signature.

  • Make a commitment to bring a smile into a conversation.

  • Volunteer some of your time, as a team, to serve others.

  • Bookend your day- start the day with positive intentions and end the day reflecting on moments of gratitude.

  • Encourage your team to share personal moments of gratitude, outside of the workplace. Get to know each other more!

What if someone feels weird about it?

Acknowledge that it’s okay to pass. No one should have to force it, but eventually most do join in! Make sure you are modeling gratitude for your team. If you don’t practice it, they won’t either! Give recognition to those who outwardly express their gratitude.

What if it’s not genuine?

Maybe there’s a lot of conflict in your company, or you’ve had to make budget cuts, or you’ve got some large issues you’re handling with employees. Asking for moments of gratitude may feel disingenuous to people. However, carving out that space of gratitude, just even 5 minutes, can make huge changes in employee morale and keep perspective in these tough times.

Dr. Jeff Kaplan and Raj Khera discuss how to create a company culture of gratitude with practical and easy steps. Check it out below!
